Walsall to pocket £6 million from Deeney sale
Walsall could profit £6 million if Watford captain Troy Deeney moves to Leicester City this summer, according to the Coventry Telegraph.
It is thought that Walsall implemented a clause in the sale of Deeney, stating that Walsall would receive 20 per cent of any profit made by Watford on the striker.
Leicester previously bid £25 million for Deeney and though it was rejected, Walsall would have received 20 per cent of the £24.5 million made by Watford. Deeney signed for Watford for a mere £500,000 in 2010.
Watford are set to hold out for £32 million for their talismanic striker, which is potentially good news for the Saddlers if the Pozzo’s accept such an offer.
Leicester are contemplating on whether Deeney is worth the fee Watford are demanding. However, it is still unknown if Vardy’s decision to stay at Leicester will influence Leicester’s continued interest in Deeney.
Ultimately, if Walsall pocket £6 million it would make missing out on the championship less painful. They will surely be favourites for promotion this year if they do receive the £6 million from Deeney’s sale.
Similarly, if Vardy accepted Arsenal’s offer, Fleetwood would have profited £6.8 million. However, this now looks unlikely as Vardy is set to sign a new contract with the Foxes.
