Injury news: Watford are not getting as lucky this year
Last year Watford had the 3rd best injury record in the Premier League, which meant Quique Sanchez Flores could more or less pick the same side every week. Although Mazzarri has used a lot of his squad already this season he will have to make changes ahead of the game against Burnley.
who is injured?
Daryl Janmaat picked up an injury against Manchester United and had to be taken off the pitch. It turns out he could face up to 6 weeks on the sidelines. This means that Nordin Amrabat may find himself starting again for a considerable period.
Stefano Okaka injured his hamstring against West Ham meaning he also faces a spell of recovery. Okaka looks to be out for about a month. Fellow striker in Jerome Sinclair similarly has injured his hamstring, although we don’t know how long he will be out for.
Younes Kaboul looks like he will be rested again against Burnley whilst he recovers from the injury he picked up in training. However, Sebastian Prodl did a great job in Kaboul’s role against United, showing the strength in depth of Watford’s squad.
Lastly, Holebas is a maybe for the Burnley game according to Walter Mazzarri.
Jose Holebas we will know about today or tomorrow if he’s ok.
who should start?
We are blessed I believe through good management we have strength in depth this year. We have Amrabat who can cover for Janmaat, Prodl who came in for Kaboul and many more examples.
I would start with a 4-3-3 against Burnley rather than playing 3 at the back. My defence would consist of Cathcart, Prodl, Britos, Kenedy and Gomes in goal. That is assuming Holebas is a doubt for the game.
I don’t see how you could drop the three in midfield that played against Manchester United last weekend. Therefore my midfield would be Capoue, Behrami and Pereyra. Leaving the 3 up front, which for me would be Amrabat on the right., Deeney in the centre and Success on the left.
